University students across the Southeast region of Nigeria, particularly those in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture (MOUAU), have been urged to apply for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund ( NELFUND ). During a press conference in Umudike, the Vice-Chancellor , Professor Maduebibisi Iwe, highlighted that the funds are designed to ease the financial burden on parents.

Professor Iwe expressed concern over the lack of interest shown by Southeastern students compared to their peers from other regions of the country who have been benefiting from the scheme. For instance, MOUAU received N120,000 in 2023, which has now been increased to N150,000 for 2024. He emphasized that it is becoming increasingly embarrassing that other parts of the country are accessing NELFUND while the Southeast shows little interest. Professor Iwe urged students to take advantage of the fund to assist their parents
