He made the call during the 18th inaugural lecture on Pedology and Nigerian Farmer: The Nexus held at the university’s campus. Professor Yakubu also recommended the need to increase pedological research as well as soil information system because the use of soil data has expanded in management of agriculture in the country.
He applauded the idea of establishing the Nigeria Institute of Soil Science by an Act of 2017, positing that soil deserves more attention due to its importance in the planning and management of natural resources for agriculture and economic development through pedological activities like soil survey and its interpretations.
The vice chancellor of the university, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu, assured that he would sustain the support and encouragement for research work to enhance development of the society with new ideas and innovations that can bring positive results.
