A federal judge in Maryland on Friday blocked the President Donald Trump government from terminating federal grants and contracts related to DEI. U.S. District Judge, Adam Abelson found that the orders likely carry constitutional violations, including against free-speech rights.
Recall that Trump had ordered federal officials to terminate all programs and activities related to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility in the federal government following his inauguration in January. The U.S president signed a follow-up order requiring federal contractors to certify that they don’t promote DEI.
“Plaintiffs have amply established a likelihood that they will succeed in proving that the Termination Provision invites arbitrary and discriminatory enforcement over billions of dollars in government funding,” Abelson ruled. “The possibilities are almost endless, and many are pernicious,” Abelson added.
