UNLV Starting QB Matt Sluka Quits Team for Perceived NIL Reasons

Sluka’s announcement comes amid widespread speculation that promises made to him regarding Name, Image and Likeness were not fulfilled -- and that he is essentially sitting out over a contract dispute.“We know NIL - and soon revenue share - is here to stay,” Jason Belzer, the founder of Student Athlete NIL, told NJ Advance Media Wednesday morning.
“Whether the collective isn’t giving him what they promised, or they’re demanding more money, this goes back to what I think the biggest issue in the space is and that is agent work and why there needs to be an oversight and certification process for agents,” the expert told NJ Advance Media. The expert added: “Do I think it’s good for the sport? In the short term, no. In the long term, yes. We’re entering in a new era of college athletics and a lot of things are going to be changing. You need things sometimes that shock the conscience to get market correction.
