The University of Lagos (UNILAG) celebrated its 55th convocation with a record number of graduates and numerous achievements, including the highest number of MBA graduates from the UNILAG Business School.
The University of Lagos ( UNILAG ) held its 55th convocation ceremony, conferring degrees on a record-breaking number of graduates. Among the highlights was the conferment of Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees on 57 students, marking the first time since the UNILAG Business School 's establishment in 2013 that the school has produced such a large cohort of MBA graduates.
Adedayo Gafaar emerged as the best-graduating student from the UNILAG Business School, achieving an unprecedented Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0. Driven by a passion to be the best, Gafaar expressed his gratitude and revealed his plans to mentor others and further his academic journey by enrolling in the ULBS Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program. The convocation ceremony recognized numerous achievements, including the awarding of Professor Emeritus status to two distinguished professors, Babajide Alo and Olukayode Amund, for their continued contributions to academia. Victor Ariole received a Gold Medal for his outstanding contributions to both the university and the nation. Three prominent individuals were also conferred with honorary degrees: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO); Fola Adeola, co-founder of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank Plc); and Kolawole Adesina, the Group Managing Director of Sahara Power Group. The ceremony featured a lecture by Tayo Aduloju, CEO of the Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG), a showcase of innovations by UNILAG staff and students, including the production of lithium batteries and sound-powered alternate energy sources, and the commissioning of three major projects, including the African Centre of Excellence for Drug Research, Herbal Medicine Development, and Regulatory Science (ACEDHARS), a World Bank-supported initiative focused on developing indigenous plants for medical applications. Over the two-day event, 9,865 graduates received first degrees and diplomas from various faculties and the Distance Learning Institute. Six visually impaired undergraduate students also graduated, highlighting UNILAG's commitment to inclusivity
