Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship candidate in Lagos State, Olajide Abdul-Azeez Adediran, said your governor has not done anything; if any, he only completed Ambode’s projects.
In this interview granted on television and monitored by AZEEZ OLORUNLOMERU, Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso responded to claims by the governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Olajide Abdul-Azeez Adediran, aka Jandor, that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has not performed. Omotoso reeled off a long list of the administration’s projects and programmes, and spoke on a host of other issues. Excerpts:I did not watch that episode.
In health, Lagos spearheaded the national response to COVID-19. The story of how Lagos tackled COVID-19 is all over the world and the state is seen as the example of how such a public health emergency should be tackled. We still have over 2 million out-of-school children in Lagos. What has been done as regards that? Concerning health care, many people complain along Lekki axis that you don’t have any government presence. Is there any General Hospital in or around Eti-Osa and what has been done as regards that?
Governor Nyesom Wike visited Lagos and endorsed Governor Sanwo-Olu. But Jandor on this programme said it does not matter because most people in Lagos are not even aware that Wike was in Lagos. What is your response to that? Also, can you tell us about the Alaba International Market, which has been shut? Some people are already giving it ethnic interpretation.
The blue line is the only rail line in Africa that has been built over water and the only line in West Africa that is going to be running on its own electricity, without public electricity. We are responsible and accountable. The Blue Line will be commuting 500,000 passengers per day, shortening to 25 minutes a journey of about two hours from Marina to Mile 2.
Lagos has a population of about 25 million people; housing such population, by any standard, is no joke. Of the housing estates that we build, 20 per cent are reserved for public servants and workers, civil servants, some of who pay instalmentally over a long period. For others to get these houses, all you need to do is go to the Ministry of Housing, get the form and fill it.
