The United Kingdom opposition Labour leader, Keir Starmer on Thursday demanded an immediate general election after Prime Minister Liz Truss announced her resignation following just six weeks in charge, AFP reports. This is as Truss resigned her position as the UK Prime Minister after 45 days (six weeks) in office. Truss’s six weeks in office was dominated by market chaos which was caused by the mini-budget that was announced by the former chancellor, Kwasi Kwarteng who was relieved of his position last week.

Following her resignation, AFP reports that the Labour leader, Starmer, while insisting that there must be a general election immediately said,"The Tories cannot respond to their latest shambles by yet again simply clicking their fingers and shuffling the people at the top without the consent of the British people. We need a general election -- now,"
