Ugwuanyi Wins, Declared Enugu Governor-elect via thisdaylive
The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party as the winner of the Saturday’s gubernatorial election in the state.
Announcing the final results at the commission’s secretariat in the state, the state governorship returning/collation officer, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, said Gkvernor Ugwuanyi scored 449, 935 votes to defeat his closest rival, Sen Ayogu Eze of the All Progressives Congress , who scored a distant 10, 423 votes.
Prof. Ahaneku, who is the Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra state said the total registered voters stood at 19, 448, 803; accredited voters, 478,241; valid votes, 470, 927; invalid, 7314; while total votes cast was 478, 241. He expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the election and urged those who could not make it to follow the due process of the law to ventilate their grievances.
The breakdown of the election results showed that the governor won in all the 17 councils of the state.The APC candidate and his supporters had stayed away from the polling units claiming that as at the time polling opened on Saturday, his name did not reflect on INEC website.
