News Central TV says two of its South African correspondents have been detained in Mozambique.

In a statement on Friday, the organisation said Bongani Siziba, a journalist and Sbonelo Mkhasibe, a cameraman, were arrested on Thursday while covering developments in Maputo, the country’s capital.

The news organisation called on the Mozambican authorities to ensure journalists’ rights are respected and that they can perform their duties without obstruction.“News Central TV expresses deep concern over the arrest and detention of our South African correspondent, Bongani Siziba, and our cameraman, Sbonelo Mkhasibe, who were arrested while covering developments in Maputo, Mozambique,” the statement reads.
