Two persons are believed to have died during the attack.
A resident of Gulu community who spoke on the condition of anonymity told TheCable that the doctor, nurse and pharmacist on duty were kidnapped alongside at least at 17 victims.“They attacked Abdulsalami Abubakar General Hospital, Gulu around midnight by 2am. Two people were killed, in fact, one of them was even slaughtered,” the resident said.
“The doctor, nurse, pharmacist, and about 17 others were carried away by bandits. There was no destruction on the hospital facility.“The man who was slaughtered, they also went along with about two or three of his children. His residential apartment is adjacent to the hospital. He is a retired doctor.”
When TheCable reached out to the Niger police command, Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesperson, said the commissioner is currently heading to the scene.Niger is one of the northern states heavily hit by insurgency.
