Donald Trump's last-ditch effort to postpone his sentencing in the hush-money case has been rejected by the US Supreme Court. The court's decision means Trump will be sentenced on Friday, just over a week before his inauguration as US President.

US president-elect, Donald Trump , has once again failed in his bid to delay his sentencing in his hush-money case . The US Supreme Court on Thursday declined to delay the upcoming sentencing of the president-elect. Donald Trump would be sworn in as US President on January 20th and had asked the US’s highest legal body to call off Friday’s sentencing. This was after a New York court earlier refused to postpone the sentencing by Judge Juan Merchan.

Juan Merchan presided over the trial of Trump in May 2024 on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. Trump pleaded not guilty to any of that. Merchan made it clear that there is no jail time, fines or probation imposed but lawyers to the president-elect are arguing that a felony conviction would still have intolerable side-effects. They share the opinion that this may even distract their client as he prepares to take office in just over a week’s time. The Supreme Court is dominated by conservative justices, three of which were appointed by Trump during his first term as president.
