The Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, sitting in Abuja on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of the petition of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi to Thursday. Obi and Labour Party are challenging the outcome of the presidential election held on February 25. The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the election. Tinubu was sworn in as Nigeria’s 16th President on Monday. However, the adjournment followed an appeal by Obi's counsel.

The counsel appealed to the tribunal to adjourn the hearing because two of their key staff members were ill. Obi, through his team of lawyers led by Prof. Awa Kalu, SAN, on Wednesday, told the court that the staff members suddenly fell ill, Vanguard reports.KALU said the indisposition of the duo, who were described as part of the engine room of his legal Secretariat, affected his plan to tender vital documents before the court to prove his allegation that the presidential election was rigged in favour of President Tinubu.
According to INEC election results declaration, APC candidate, Tinubu, polled 8,794,726 votes to defeat Atiku Abubakar of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party who polled 6,984,520 votes and Obi who had 6,101,533 votes to come third.However, Obi and his party LP, in their petition marked: CA/PEPC/03/2023, have maintained that President Tinubu was not qualified to participate in the presidential contest.
