Officials from the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure are in Trepassey today to determine next steps in reinforcing the breakwater initially damaged by Hurricane Larry.In a statement to VOCM News, the department says following the hurricane, officials worked with the town and provided disaster financial assistance for repairs to the breakwater, with the town issuing a tender for repairs earlier that year, as the road and breakwater are municipal infrastructure.

They say they have worked to assess damage and help plan additional reinforcements to add to the structure, and will be determining next steps today. Minister Elvis Loveless and Premier Andrew Furey have recently spoken with Mayor Rita Pennell according to the department, and have committed to helping the town find a long-term solution.
