Former Ajax and AC Milan legend, Marco van Basten, has warned Ajax defender Jurrien Timber to decide against joining Arsenal this summer.
Arsenal are reportedly close to sealing the deal to sign Timber, with the 22-year-old said to have agreed on personal terms with the Gunners. Van Basten, however, believes Timber will find it hard to break into Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s starting XI at the Emirates. “You have only been playing at Ajax for just three years. How old are you now? Twenty-one or just turned 22? You have to be careful that you don’t become a reserve player there,” Van Basten said .
“I would have waited to get more experience. Another year at Ajax would have suited you. You should not go somewhere just to participate. You should go to a club where you will be regarded as a leader and a dominant figure in the team.”
