It was meant to be a sentimental morning before champion mare Winx's final face this weekend — but a simple mistake by her trainer at Rosehill left everyone very anxious.

What was meant to be a sentimental morning quickly turned to one of heightened anxiety for the racing fraternity ahead of Winx's last race.Her trainer said the champion mare was spooked by the media packThe seven-year-old mare, spooked by the massive media pack, kicked-out while being handled by her strapper after a morning trackwork session at Rosehill Gardens in Sydney today.

The champion mare slammed her hoof into one of the signage boards in Rosehill's mounting enclosure, as her strappers struggled to keep her under control. She then cantered off, leaving the media pack — and her strappers and trainers — wondering if everything was OK."I shouldn't have taken the ear muffs off [her] this morning," he said.

"I just wanted to take them off so you could all see her without the ear phones on and as soon as did she could hear the clicking and clacking."
