The delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games has come and gone, but not without drama inside Team Nigeria’s camp at the global sports showpiece.
The AFN has been torn into two bodies following a $2.76m kits deal signed by the Ibrahim Gusau-led board in 2019. The ministry then sealed a deal with AFA Sports, a local sportswear firm, to kit the athletes in Tokyo. Chukwuebika Enekwechi, who reached the final of the men’s shot put event, provoked reactions from his compatriots’ back home, when he posted a TikTok video revealing that he had just one jersey, which he washed after every event.
