August 29, 2024 9:41 pmPresident Bola Tinubu has urged Carlos Areias, the new Brazilian ambassador to Nigeria, to prioritise the establishment of direct flights between both countries.The president said the establishment of direct flights was part of discussions he had with Luiz Lula da Silva, his Brazilian counterpart, on the margins of the African Union February summit, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Tinubu expressed Nigeria’s commitment to working closely with Brazil to strengthen bilateral relations and advance shared priorities.”We have a long history of bilateral and cultural relations with Brazil. You must see Nigeria as your second home and explore the abundant economic opportunities in the country,” a statement issued by Ajuri Ngelale, presidential spokesperson, quoted Tinubu as saying.
The president also said talks of increased investments in Nigerian dairy farming and an energised economy are underway with Brazilian investors. Areias said the Brazillian president is looking forward to welcoming Tinubu to the G20 leaders’ summit scheduled for November 18 and 19 in Rio de Janeiro.The ambassador said food security is the main proposal of the Brazilian presidency at the G20, adding that “Africa is top priority for President Lula and Nigeria is the most important country for us”.
