The president made this statement during a visit to Enugu State on Saturday, where he inaugurated several projects completed by Governor Peter Mbah . Tinubu 's administration ended the subsidy regime during his inauguration in May 2023, leading to a substantial increase in fuel prices.
However, Tinubu maintained that removing fuel subsidies was crucial for building a better Nigeria, emphasizing that the move would ultimately benefit the country despite initial challenges. During his visit to Enugu, Tinubu praised Governor Peter Mbah for his visionary leadership and pledged to collaborate with him to develop the state and the country. He also commended Abia Governor Alex Otti for his leadership. The president inaugurated numerous projects in Enugu, including 30 Smart Green Schools out of 260, 60 completed Type 2 Primary Health Centres, and 19-kilometre Airport-New Haven – Bisalla and Okpara Square roads constructed by Governor Mbah's administration. Other inaugurated projects included the completed International Conference Centre and a state-of-the-art command and control centre equipped with 150 patrol vehicles fitted with AI-embedded surveillance cameras.
