The presidency on Thursday said President Bola Tinubu has not approved any salary increase, and no such proposal has been brought before him for consideration. The State House in a release Dele Alake, Special Adviser, Special Duties, Communications and Strategy, said while it was within the constitutional remit of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), such cannot stand without the presidential approval.
June 22, 2023The presidency on Thursday said President Bola Tinubu has not approved any salary increase, and no such proposal has been brought before him for consideration.
The RMAFC on Tuesday said that it had approved 114% increment in political office holders’ salaries, due to the review of the economic realities in the country – a decision which had drawn the ire of several commentators saying the government was insensitive to workers’ plight in the wake of the fuel subsidy removal.
“We state without any equivocation that President Bola Tinubu has not approved any salary increase, and no such proposal has been brought before him for consideration. While we recognise that it is within the constitutional remit of Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission to propose and fix salaries and allowances of political office holders and Judicial Officers, such cannot come to effect until it has equally been considered and approved by the President.
