The Nation Newspaper Tinubu challenges African leaders on Blue Economy
, yesterday, urged African leaders to prioritise the Blue Economy to boost job creation and take Africans out of the woods.
Tinubu stated this yesterday in Abuja at the opening ceremony of the sixth Africa-Wide Agricultural Extension Week. The theme of the conference, Tinubu said, was most appropriate “at this period the continent is eager and determined to reposition the ports for competitiveness.” The group, he said, is “also leveraging on members’ expertise through technical committees and programmes that create platforms focused on resolving complex port and maritime industry concerns and building greater efficiency and sustainability for ports in the sub-region especially as the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement to which Nigeria is signatory gains traction.
His administration, the President said, “is committed more than ever before to exploring the entire gamut of opportunities in the marine and blue economy ecosystem including coastal tourism. At the event was the Controller-General, Nigerian Customs Service Adewale Adeniyi, Director-General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency , Dr Bashi Jamoh, the secretary, national action committee on AfCFTA, Olusegun Awolowo, members of the National Assembly and other senior government officials.
The Manual, he said, focuses on how to effectively disseminate and deploy agricultural innovations and technologies to end-users using appropriate extension methods.
