A group of kangaroos has been found dead in the picturesque NSW far-south coast town of Merimbula after they were targeted by a rogue driver.

About 20 kangaroos, including a number of joeys, have been run down and killed on the NSW south coast in an act of animal cruelty.

The kangaroo carcasses were found on Dress Circle and Headland Drive in Tura Beach at Merimbula on Sunday morning. Spokeswoman Elena Wewer from NSW Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Services said three joeys survived the ordeal and now remain in veterinary care with local member Janine Green."The smallest one is a male and is approximately six months old, and has been named “Nullah”."The two older joeys, currently unnamed, came into care later in the afternoon at around 4.30pm."The other is a male joey around nine and a half months old.

Police believe the animals were run over by a vehicle before midnight on Saturday, and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
