He made the observation on Friday in Abuja while handing over the baton of leadership to the Deputy Executive Secretary, Chris Maiyaki.
Rasheed expressed a desire to see the number of universities in Nigeria increased to 4, 000, as the available ones are merely enough to cater for the tertiary needs of Nigerians. He criticised the arguments made by many about the lack of employment opportunities for the majority of graduates upon graduation, saying such concerns were unnecessary as education is the best way to fight poverty.
The former NUC scribe also noted that countries less endowed and populated than Nigeria have a greater number of universities.
