Corruption, everyone agrees, is not only injurious but stunts development. It also not only diverts resources from legitimate causes that are beneficial to the society at large, but denies millions of people their fundamental freedoms and human rights.
In Nigeria, corruption has become endemic. Every successive administration in the country, at inception, mouths disgust against corruption. That is usually where it stops as same government become embodiment of corruption.
The fight against corruption, especially in the last eight years, has become so comical and predictable. The Peoples Democratic Party covenant document on corruption detailed the ‘how’ of fighting corruption, unlike other political parties manifestoes which mouthed corruption without the manual of how to go about it.
To show how serious he is about fighting this monster, Atiku would lead in the institutional reforms of anti-corruption agencies and strengthening them for more effective performance. He will also ensure that judgments on corruption cases are fully followed through and enforced by the appropriate law enforcement agencies which is lacking in the present fight against corruption.
