Tension erupted on Tuesday at the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, as students protested after suspected armed robbers invaded off-campus accommodations in the Gwallameji area of Bauchi metropolis, a student community, resulting in one death and the theft of properties.

The robbery incident was said to have occurred on Tuesday at about 2:30 in the morning.

gathered that an unidentified man reportedly died from the injuries sustained during the robbery attack. Consequently, the students embarked on a protest, following the incessant robbery activities in the area. However, the protesters were dispersed by the Police who fired teargas at them. Our reporter who visited the scene of the protest sighted police vehicles which were stationed opposite the school gate to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

One of the students, speaking anonymously for security reasons, said they were alerted by the cries of their neighbours who were screaming for help. He said about three student lodges were attacked by the robbers who were about 50 in number. They were said to have made away with students' properties, including phones and money.
