TOLOSA, Leyte – A task force dubbed “Power Restoration Rapid Deployment” (PRRD), after the acronym for “President Rodrigo Roa Duterte,” is helping electric cooperatives restore electricity in areas of Eastern Visayas damaged by typhoon “Ursula” (international name: “Phanfone”).

Association of Philippine Electric Cooperatives party-list Representative Sergio Dago-oc told reporters in a press conference last Dec. 28 at the Don Orestes Romualdez Electric Cooperative in Tolosa that 55 linemen from eight electric cooperatives in Mindanao were deployed to “Ursula”-affected areas in Eastern Visayas to restore power to electric cooperatives damaged by the typhoon last Dec. 24.

Dago-oc identified the eight cooperatives as Agusan Del Norte Electric Cooperative, Agusan Del Sur Electric Cooperative, Northern Davao Electric Cooperative, Surigao Del Norte Electric Cooperative, Surigao Del Sur I Electric Cooperative, Surigao Del Sur II Electric Cooperative, Siargao Electric Cooperative, and Dinagat Island Electric Cooperative.

As of this writing, some cooperatives have reached more than 90 percent power restoration as reported by Allan Laniba, general manager of Leyte III Electric Cooperative.
