Briefing newsmen yesterday in Jalingo, the leaders of the church expressed dismay that communities that once lived happily together have suddenly decided to turn their backs against each other, a situation they said is uncalled for.
and give confidence to the people who had earlier fled their homes as a result of the wanton killings and destruction of lives and property between the Ichen and Tiv ethnic groups in the southern part of the state.
Led by the National President, Rev. Caleb Ahima, the clerics felt sad that a lot of people have been displaced and need to be supported with relief materials. They also drew the attention of the state and federal governments to the plights of IDPs in the warring communities, stressing the need for the authorities to make available to them, food and other relief materials to cushion the hardship.
Stressing that there is no time in history that crisis, wars or misunderstandings have ever paid anyone, the national president, who was represented by the state chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria , Rev. Isaiah Jarapye, urged the warring communities to desist from destroying what we have laboured to be with for years in just a day because of a dispute that can be settled amicably.
