Adamawa State workers may observe low-keyed Eid-el-Kabir following the government’s slash of their July salaries.
However, industrial action looms if the government defaults in its pledge to restore the slashed differences in the August pay.
The workers, who didn’t see the situation coming, were disappointed on Tuesday when they received incomplete pay for the month of July.Reacting to the development, the Nigeria Labour Congress , Adamawa chapter, stated: “Leadership of organised labour received with deep shock the unfortunate and unwarranted deductions in July 2020 salaries of state workers, despite the COVID-19 scourge, without recourse, due consideration and consultation with us.
However, that state chairman of Joint National Congress , Mohammed Tuki, appealed to workers to spend reasonably as they celebrate. The police spokesman, ASP Muhammad Jalige, stated yesterday that the Commissioner of Police , Umar Muri, “directed all Area Commanders , Divisional Police Officers and Heads of Department to ensure intensive security coverage of their areas and immediately commence aggressive stop-and-search patrols, purposeful vehicular patrol and robust intelligence gathering to ensure security of lives and property before, during and after the festive period.
