“The COVID-19 pandemic amplifies the urgent need to strengthen the Nigerian Pharmaceutical sector.' Covid19 Nigeria

*NIPRD, Bloom Public Health partner to ensure availability of quality medicines during, post-COVID-19 pandemic

As part of emergency efforts to find medicines to prevent or treat the novel coronavirus infection and strengthen pharmaceutical research and development to ensure the availability of quality medicines to all citizens of Nigeria during and post pandemic, the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Research and Development Abuja is partnering with Bloom Public Health through a Memorandum of Understanding .

According to the MoU signed yesterday in Abuja, Bloom will facilitate other collaborations within Africa to support NIPRD in playing a leadership role in the pharmaceutical quality space. Additionally, Bloom will serve as NIPRD’s technical partner for accessing and implementing donor-funded initiatives to enhance NIPRD’s impact in Nigeria.

Chief Executive Officer , Bloom Public Health, Prof. Chimezie Anyakora, said, “The COVID-19 pandemic amplifies the urgent need to strengthen the Nigerian Pharmaceutical sector and NIPRD as an institution is extremely instrumental to the growth and development of the sector. This partnership will ensure that NIPRD is fully supported technically to lead our country’s pharmaceutical sector reform and we are honored and privileged to be able to contribute our quota to this great journey.

Director General, NIPRD, Dr. Obi Peter Adigwe, said: “The partnership between Bloom and NIPRD is the type of Africa-led collaboration that will revolutionise the development of home-grown solutions for our healthcare issues.
