The Advocacy for Alleged Witches (AfAW) says that those accused of witchcraft are innocent. It appealed to the Nigerian public not to attack, kill or make such people suffer in any way as widely being practised in various places. Director of AfAW, Dr Leo Igwe, made the passionate appeal on Thursday, in a statement titled 'Accused and Abused for Witchcraft in Benue state'.

Director of AfAW, Dr Leo Igwe, made the passionate appeal on Thursday, in a statement titled"Accused and Abused for Witchcraft in Benue state". According to Igwe, Dona's son thereafter accused him of being responsible for the death of his children, insisting that he killed them with his witchcraft.Appealing to Nigerians and the general public to resist all witch hunters and witch persecutors, Igwe, a former Western and Southern African representative of the International Humanist and Ethical Union, lamented that people accused of witchcraft or harmful magic and medicine suffer physical attack and harm.
“The son relocated to the village to do some farm work and later got married. The wife gave birth on two occasions but the babies later died. There was no medical report from a hospital that showed the cause of death. No autopsy was carried out. The son accused Dona of being responsible for the death of the children. He alleged that Dona killed the children through witchcraft.
