BREAKING: Sixth aged care resident dies COVID19 coronavirus coronavirusAU
The first coronavirus cases were detected in China, but it only took a matter of weeks for the amount of confirmed infections in other countries to surpass them.
The United States is the current hotspot for the virus, with almost a million confirmed infections and over 50,000 deaths, more than a quarter of all worldwide deaths. But there are now fears Brazil could become the next centre of the pandemic as infections start to surge. On several occasions the Brazilian president has dismissed the virus as a media "trick", just a little flu, and not powerful enough to kill tough Brazilians.Evidently dissatisfied with the government response, drug gangs took it upon themselves to enforce social distancing in Brazil's favelas, the high density neighbourhoods primarily occupied by the nation's poorer citizens.

Waiting three weeks to ease restrictions could result in ‘enormous economic damage’ | Sky News AustraliaSky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says the government should manage the risk of a second wave of coronavirus and begin to open the economy “within the next week”. \n\nMr Clennell’s comment responded to the National Cabinet’s decision to review lockdown restrictions in approximately three weeks.\n\n“If you go so black and white and say you’ve got to wait six months or you’ve got to wait three weeks, you can do enormous damage to the economy,” he said.\n\nAccording to Mr Clennell, “there are close to 600,000 applications for the dole that have occurred in the past three or four weeks and we know there are many more unemployed who will go on the JobKeeper subsidy”.\n\n“We are not in the same situation as Singapore which has had renewed outbreaks,” he told Sky News host Andrew Bolt. \n\n“Why can’t states like Western Australia who has had zero cases for a couple of day or the Northern Territory who have had zero cases for two weeks, at the very least start opening things up and see how that goes?”\n\nMr Clennell said while “the National Cabinet process has been a credit to those involved,” a major limitation is, when making decisions, “they all seem to go together”. \n\nThe unity Scott Morrison pushed for seems to be “holding them back” from easing the restrictions currently smothering the economy. \n\nImage: Getty
