Stakeholders decry high level forgery in international trade documents vanguardngr.com vanguardnews

Speaking to Vanguard Maritime Report, moderator of the programme, Dr Obiora Madu, a former banker and Director General of African Centre for Supply Chain, said that most of the documents were so well perfected that it would take a forensic audit to identify them as fake.

Madu warned importers and other businessmen and women involved in international trade to be cautious so as not to dent the image of the country.“The action of one man can put the image and credibility of a people in jeopardy and this can lead to unpleasant consequences”, he said. Speaking in similar vein, the Executive Secretary of the Borderless Alliance, Justin Bayili, also frowned at the menace of fake international trade document, adding that it will amount to a loss of credibility to the selling party.

Martin Okonkwo, a freight forwarder, said that the issue of the fake document has made some of his colleagues lose out in businesses worth billions of Naira. Okonkwo urged the government to take measures to curtail faking of international trade documents. In his reaction, Alban Igwe, Deputy National President of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Nigeria, said that there is no alternative to genuine trade document.
