Chairman, Federal Polytechnic Bauchi Pensioners Association, Yusuf Adamu, tells ARMSTRONG BAKAM about the plights of pensioners in the schoolMy name is Yusuf Adamu of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi and chairman of pensioners’ association of the institution. I started working with the polytechnic on May 16, 1985, and left the services of the institution on January 3, 2007. I served for a period of 22 years.
Anytime we try to reach the office of Pensions Transition Administration, nobody answers our call. We are not allowed to see the director of pension with the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate whenever we visit Abuja to lodge our complaints. So, we are urging the Federal Government to come to our aid. Some of us are dying of hunger and frustration. We are more than 200 in number with these problems, and 220 of the pensioners were even degraded. We have been relegated.
Altogether, we are 271 in both the academic and non-academic that are denied these rights. We are therefore urging the Federal Government, the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi and, specifically, the office of the bursar of the polytechnic to hasten the payment of our benefits. What I know is that the polytechnic has computed our benefits and it’s in the region of N50m. The amount has been sent to the PTAD. We have written to the PTAD since February 2020 and it promised to pay in June.
