Rio 2016 Olympics bronze medal-winning coach, Samson Siasia, who is serving a five-year ban from FIFA, and former CHAN Eagles manager, Salisu Yusuf, who also served a one-year ban from the world football governing body, are among 10 coaches that have applied to replace Jose Peseiro as Super Eagles’ coach.

Siasia is currently banned by FIFA from all football-related activities after being caught in the middle of a match-fixing investigation, which found him guilty of bribes in relation to the manipulation of matches.

According to soccernet.ng, 10 candidates met the Nigeria Football Federation’s March 12, 2024 deadline to submit their application for the job. Soccernet.ng reports that several top coaches are jostling to succeed Peseiro, including one European. Also confirmed to have submitted their applications are the current United States U-19 team coach, Michael Nsien, and former Super Eagles assistant coach, Sylvanus Okpala.

George Finidi, who guided Enyimba FC to the league title last year before serving as assistant to Peseiro at AFCON 2023, has also shown interest in becoming the next Super Eagles boss. Before flagging, please keep in mind that Disqus does not moderate communities.
