The Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Most Rev. Felix Ajakaye, has urged the Nigerian electorate to shun vote-selling in the forthcoming general election to end the emergence of selfish and incompetent people in government.

Ajakaye, who noted that vote-selling and vote-buying were sins and crimes against humanity, said, “As individuals and groups, we must never allow the incessant inglorious vote-selling and vote-buying in this year’s elections.”

The cleric, in his New Year message titled, ‘2023: Year of practical decision’, made available to journalists on Monday, appealed to those who had not collected their voter cards from the Independent National Electoral Commission to do so to ensure they could participate in the election of right leaders.

He lampooned some political parties for not following the rule of law, saying, “They engage in fake primaries and want to win elections by all means. They get to power crudely and behave true to type – selfish and treasury looters.”
