The Sokoto State Hisbah Commission has decried the high cases of rape in the state.
The Commandant of the Sokoto State Hisbah Commission, Dr Adamu Kasarawa, said interference with legal processes, favouritism and compromise were some reasons for the high cases of rape in the state. He said, “The record of rape cases with the commission is alarming. The record jumped from 296 cases in 2018 to 606 cases at the close of 2019.
“More disturbing, in January 2020 alone, about 21 cases of rape were recorded. The issue of rape is rampant among teenage girls between the ages of five and 16.” The Hisbah commandant stated that other cases before the command include illegal camping of young girls, sexual exploitation and sodomy. All rights reserved.
