Sham marriage rumbled when bride used Google Translate to communicate with her groom
A BOGUS bride has been jailed after her sham marriage was rumbled because she could only communicate with her groom using Google Translate.
Singh was jailed for 30 months in 2016 for conspiracy to facilitate illegal migration and Banomova and Kovac, both of Wolverhampton, were given the same sentence in their absence. Banomova and Singh tied the knot at Stockton-on-Tees Register Office in 2012, a year after his student visa expired.Singh, of Jarrow, South Tyneside, had denied the marriage – arranged within two months of them meeting - was fake and maintained the couple were in a loving relationship.
After their arrest police discovered that they had communicated over their phones by putting questions and answers to each other through Google translate.
