The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, affirmed the Senate's unwavering support for the Supreme Court's judgment granting financial autonomy to 774 local governments in Nigeria. This statement came after a closed session prompted by a motion raised by Sen. Tony Nwoye concerning alleged attempts by state governments to circumvent the Supreme Court ruling.
The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, says the Senate is fully in support of the Supreme Court judgement on granting financial autonomy to the 774 Local Governments in Nigeria.
Akpabio said: “We stand solidly behind the Supreme Court judgement and pronouncement on the local government autonomy. “Also by ensuring that the local government funds are fully utilised for the benefits of rural people,”.
