'Keeping young people connected': Scouts Victoria has used online activities to keep 20,000 children engaged - and has boosted its membership in the process.
In lieu of the closed-off great outdoors, Aston Peck, 9, has been rummaging around the house pulling out bed sheets and pillows to build a cubby for his latest online scout challenge.Aston and Harriet are excited about connecting with other children online in Scouts Victoria's online camp.And on Saturday night, Aston joined his joey scout sister, Harriet, 7, in a backyard camp-out with about 2000 other children similarly starved of out-of-school fun.

"All activities have stopped - sport has stopped, swimming has stopped - so they get online and see their mates and it's really great to see," he said. "I was initially worried that we would be struggling to keep them engaged.""It's very different from how it was. But it's not worse. It's still very good," he said of the new-look scout experience.
