The school has insisted it is 'dealing with the matter'

Several parents have claimed that they kept their children home from school today following a 'violent' altercation which took place at a Tameside school yesterday . Parents of students at Audenshaw School , an all-boys school on Hazel Street in the town, reported a 'brawl' breaking out between two groups at the school in the afternoon.

A parent who did not wish to be named claimed: 'The altercation continued outside of school and friends of the larger group who instigated this were heard saying this isn’t over.' There were rumours online members of school staff being injured in the altercation, which a spokesperson for the school denied. The parent continued: 'I drove past the school taking my younger children to school this morning thinking, hoping a large teacher presence or better still a police presence would be there given the threats made. 'There was nothing from what I could see. Given the threat made I have kept my son off school today until I hear formally that the matter has been dealt with.' The M.E.N understands that GMP were not called to the incident. A letter was sent out to parents at around 2pm, in which headteacher Miss Holly Eckhardt advised that 'much' of what was being shared within the community was 'simply not accurate'. 'Dear Parent/Carer, I am writing to you directly because I want you to hear from us, rather than from other sources,' she wrote. 'Yesterday, an incident took place between a number of students. It was dealt with promptly by staff in line with our behaviour policy. 'I am aware that a number of accounts of this incident are being shared within the community. Some of what is being shared is simply not accurate. 'I would ask that you please be cautious about what you read and what you pass on, and that you rely on communications directly from the school as your source of information. 'The welfare of every student at Audenshaw School is our absolute priority. We have followed our established procedures throughout, and we are providing appropriate support to those involved. 'Families who are directly affected have been contacted personally. We want to reassure parents that the school is dealing with this matter. Thank you for your continued support.' When contacted for comment, a spokesperson for the school said: 'We are aware of an incident involving students at Audenshaw School yesterday. 'The matter was dealt with promptly by staff and we are supporting all students and families involved. 'The welfare and wellbeing of our students is, and always will be, our absolute priority. We will not be issuing any further comment at this time.”
