The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has made a big change to its Voluntary Disclosure Programme.
The South African Revenue Service has announced that it is making its Voluntary Disclosure Programme permanently available.
According to SARS, the step to make the programme permanently available is in line with the revenue service’s strategic objective to provide clarity and certainty as well as make it easy and seamless for taxpayers and traders to comply with their obligations. While voluntary compliance is SARS’ preference, the group warned that it is refining its capability to detect non-compliance and will make it hard and costly for taxpayers who are not keeping up with their tax affairs.Taxpayers who have tax defaults with SARS and would like to be granted relief from penalties and avoid possible criminal prosecution can voluntarily disclose their outstanding tax affairs.
