The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has inaugurated 102 units of compactor trucks and 100 units of double waste bins to the fleet of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority.Sanwo-Olu, while inaugurating the equipment on Wednesday at the Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, said the new assets would improve waste evacuation in the state.
He said, “Today, we are unveiling new equipment that will enable LAWMA to effectively fulfil its mandate. “We are confident that the addition of these new assets to our existing ones will bring about visible improvements in waste evacuation and reduce the incidence of black spots that blight our roads and clog our drains.”
Sanwo-Olu urged residents to develop a change of attitude towards the environment by observing hygiene and proper waste management.“I urge Lagosians to take responsibility for the waste we generate and act as responsible citizens at all times. We cannot continue to litter our roads with filth, dump waste by the roadside or in illegal dumps, or patronise cart-pushers for waste disposal.”
The Managing Director, LAWMA, Mr Ibrahim Odunbomi, said, “We are currently working on ‘LAWMA-Own-A-Bin’ programme, which requires that residents acquire and own two customised waste bins, for proper conterisation of sorted waste.”All rights reserved.
