The Nation Newspaper Sanwo-Olu: Fulfiling campaign promises
examines how the governor has been keeping to the pact he signed with the people, especially in health and the environment.
The governor, at the unveiling, said his administration had also invested over N2 billion towards rehabilitating dumpsites, with another N1 billion being invested in the construction of three new transfer loading stations to provide the necessary infrastructure to facilitate the effective delivery of solid waste management services.
The equipment comprised two-loader black hoe model, one low-loader trailer, one track loader, four wheel pick-up, five tipper truck, two light cargo truck, one low bed horse, one crane truck and two floodlights. The first batch of equipments were procured in 2019 and unveiled at the Emergency Flood Abatement Gang yard in Oregun, Ikeja.
Keeping in mind also that it is important for residents to relax in a serene, comforting environment, the Sanwo-Olu administration invested in dual-purpose recreational parks that are cheap to access. These parks add to the city’s aesthetics and also generate income for the government. And though they were established for the sole purpose of beautification and relaxation, residents have found them useful for other purposes such as work, and even networking.
The academy was opened September 15, 2020, with the sole aim of promoting knowledge and awareness creation on effective waste management, especially among the younger generation. The centre at Eti-Osa was however a Permanent Triage and Oxygen Therapy Centre to handle COVID-19 patients with severe symptoms. The governor, represented at the commissioning by the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, noted that the centre will provide swift emergency oxygen therapy to patients who require it.
“Although these critical facilities were set up to effectively address the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, they have become a crucial part of our health infrastructure that will cater to health challenges that may not be related to COVID-19.” “We will continue to ensure that all Lagosians have access to quality healthcare, irrespective of their socio-economic status. Although there is still so much to be done, I am proud of the considerable progress we have made in the last two years”, Sanwo-Olu stated.
“This full-equipped MCC is a clear demonstration of this administration’s seriousness about the war against maternal and child mortality. In the last two years, our government has shown great commitment to the improvement of maternal and child health indices in the state. Our overarching goal is to eradicate infant and child mortality in our state, while our women must no longer die while giving life.
The administration also revamped the Jigi Bola initiative to give residents, especially the elderly, a new lease at life through their sight; supported 15 families of persons living with cerebral palsy and Down Syndrome with about N1 million to N2.5 million each.
