Salary Increment: Your Denial Is Not Enough, Cut Down All Political Office Holders’ Salaries — Youth Group Tells TinubuReacting to President Tinubu-led Nigerian government’s denial of reported approval for 114% increment of salaries of elected office holders, YRC on Friday in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Michael Lenin and the National Secretary, Francis Nwapa, said that the denial was not enough.
YRC noted that currently, “all the living costs of the President Tinubu and the ‘First family’ are borne by the country. President Tinubu does not even use his own money to buy fuel for the tens of luxury vehicles in the presidential pool even though he has imposed a steep rise in fuel cost on Nigerians.
According to the group, he who comes to equity must come with clean hands; hence, President Tinubu cannot ask all Nigerians to tighten their belt and sacrifice while he continues to live the life of opulence associated with the office of the Presidency. Calling for review of minimum wage for Nigerian workers, YRC said, “Given the rapidly worsening economic situation, we urge the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress to demand that negotiation over a review of the minimum wage should start immediately.
