KOTA KINABALU: A Sabahan as prime minister is most welcome, but Sabah MCA says it doubts the sincerity of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in proposing Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal as the prime minister candidate of the Opposition.
Sabah MCA treasurer Chin Kim Hiung said Dr Mahathir’s proposal that the Chief Minister and Parti Warisan Sabah president is made the Opposition's choice for the post raised the question whether it was something that would be honoured or just a political move to gain the support of Sabah and Sarawak MPs.
“His latest move appears to have an ulterior motive because when he was the 7th Prime Minister, not only were the promises made not fulfilled but he was a stumbling block to the efforts, ” he said on Thursday . “Without a party, Dr Mahathir’s decision does carry any weight because his announcement without consultation with his Pakatan Plus allies was done unilaterally, ” he observed.
