South Australia has recorded 5,579 new COVID cases and six deaths as new modelling is released showing the state is nearing the peak of the current Omicron outbreak.
Premier Steven Marshall said Friday’s caseload, which showed showed a massive increase of more than 2,000 cases compared to the previous day, had set a new record for the state.
"We do need to have some caution when interpreting this data," he said."The previous day we were getting our samples in much later."Friday’s COVID-19 figures also included 1,747 positive results from rapid antigen tests - a first for South Australia. He warned updated modelling which takes into account the Omicron variant of COVID-19 has forecast 370 hospital admissions and 50 people in ICU after cases peak.
