A 27-year-old man has been allegedly shot dead by a policeman inspector at Banana Junction in Amaifeke town near Orlu in Imo State. It was gathered they were using the opportunity to enforce the wearing of facemask ordered by the State Government to curb the spread of COVID-19 when the incident occurred. The unindentified deceased, who hailed from the nearby Okporo community, was carrying a passenger and not putting on a facemask when the Inspector stopped him.
But the deceased was said to have insisted that he would not pay because others who did not wear facemasks were allowed to go without their bikes being impounded. Commissioner of Police, Isaac Akinmoyede, confirmed the incident to The Nation on phone, saying one of the officers was matcheted.
