The police said it had launched a manhunt for the gunmen who killed and decapitated Alex Umezuruike, leader of a local vigilance group in Umudioga, in the Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Omoni while speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt said, “It was a building cult war which resulted in his death. A rival cult invaded his privacy, got him killed and decapitated him. We have been able to secure his dismembered corpse and since that night till now, we have been there.
“For now, we have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators of the dastardly act to make them face the law. You are aware that the CP has ordered an investigation and that is where we are.” Asked if any arrest had been made, he said, “Already, some of our officers are combing the bushes and trying to trail the fleeing cultists. So far the place is calm, but assistance from members of the community by way of information that can lead to the arrest of these hoodlums is needed.”
