Rivers Election Violence: IPND condemns killings, advocates peaceful guber, state assembly polls vanguardngr.com vanguardnews
PORT HARCOURT – INDIGENOUS People of Niger Delta, IPND, has called for “utmost decorum among all stakeholders” for free , fair and peaceful governorship and state assembly elections in volatile Rivers state.
State President, IPND Rivers chapter, Prince Tobins Tony, regretted, before newsmen yesterday in Port Harcourt, that in-spite of the bitter experiences of the past and the pains of 23 February’s renewed elections killings, some key actors are still bent of instigating more lost of lives in over March 9 exercise.
The IPND chief said, “We strongly condemn the killing of military officers, and youth in some parts of the Rivers during the Presidential and National Assembly Elections. The time has come to cease fire. Rivers should be peaceful at all time, irrespective of our political differences. All stakeholders must be peaceful during and after the elections of March 9. Everyone must be feel the assuring sense of safety to come out and vote peacefully. Security operatives should be alert to avert loss of life and property, especially withing this period.”
