Niger Delta Environmental and right activist and National President Ijaw People Development Initiative, IPDI, Comrade Austin Ozobo on Wednesday condemned the unlawful arrest and detention of DAILY POST Correspondent in Warri, Delta State, Mr. Matthew Omonigho by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Squad on Tuesday. He demanded that the erring Officers who effected the unlawful arrest of the Journalist be arrested and prosecuted by the IGP.

Ozobo also said that “The arrest of the four journalists was unlawful, illegal, barbaric and unprecedented.According to Ozobo, “The Police have thrown professionalism and discipline in the wind. You stormed NUJ and abducted two journalists unlawfully because you couldn’t see someone you went for, and the NUJ sent two other journalists to effect their release and you arrested them again. This shows the height of police lawlessness in the Country.

“The journalists have constitutional rights to practice their profession but if they erred in the cause of doing their business, they can be invited for clarification or apology and retraction and not to be arrested and detained unlawfully.
