The Federation of Informal Workers’ Organizations of Nigeria (FIWON) has said that the subsidy removal and consequential hike in the pump price of petrol is yet another attack on the livelihoods and survival of working people in the informal sector which currently employs over 70% of the Nigerian working population. Former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2022 said the government would remove fuel subsidy, hence, there was no provision for fuel subsidy in the 2023 appropriation bill.
